Stand Up Paddleboarding
We will be publishing the details for taster sessions for Stand Up Paddleboarding during April. Sessions should start in May.
Our taster sessions are intended as an introduction to the sport of Windsurfing for people thinking of joining the club. They are offered at the ridiculously low price of £10, paid in advance (we can accept online payments or cheques, no cash on the day sorry), which you will get back if you decide to join the club. We do not offer the taster sessions to groups out on a stag weekend or works day out, or team building exercise. They are for people genuinely interested who are actively considering joining our club. As such we cannot accept block bookings. The maximum number of people we can accept per booking is 2 unless it is a family group.
We offer morning or afternoon sessions and they will run 10 am -1pm and 2pm till 5pm. You will need to arrive at least half an hour early. If you contact us to enquire about availability we need to know whether you prefer AM or PM sessions. Dates for the current year are at the bottom of the page.
The taster sessions will help you decide whether windsurfing is for you. If you want to take if further we will refund the £10 when you join and you will be eligible for a free full weekend training course (value £180) that will set you up with the skills necessary to allow you to use our equipment unsupervised. The club does not charge (unlike if you were to go to a windsurfing centre) for the use of our beginner equipment.
Your taster session will be approximately 3 hours long and will take the following format:-
- Meet your instructor, a brief introduction to the club,
- Introduction to the equipment,
- Getting on to the board,
- Basic stance and the secure position,
- Carrying out static turns,
- The sailing position.
Your instructor will show you the basics on a simulator and allow each of you to try it for yourself before going out onto the water and having a go on our equipment for approximately an hour. You will then take a break and review your progress and go over those aspects you feel you need to work on again on the simulator. Then back on the water for another spell.
Tuition from an instructor will continue out on the water. Your instructor will accompany you either sailing with you or in the safety boat.
Children must be accompanied by a Guardian that can remain in attendance for the duration of the session. Children must be aged 14 or over.
You will need to bring a swimming costume, towel and suitable footwear (preferably beach shoes – nothing with big soles) that you don’t mind getting wet. We will provide a wetsuit and buoyancy aid and all the windsurfing gear, although if you do have your own wetsuit then it would be best to bring it.
