AGM 2019 – Change of Venue

Calendar of Events for 2019

We have now finalised the calendar for the year. Last year we increased the amount of training time for existing members and this year we are increasing that again. We recognise that people want to improve and we want to help you. Clearly windsurfing is on the up and up in the East Midlands, and if you want to be part of it TWC is the place to be.

There are plans this year to include SUPing or paddleboarding and we are exploring grants to fund the purchase of a set of SUPs. As this progresses, we’ll be making some of the Club Days specific to SUPing and if we can get the funding adding specific Taster Sessions for SUPing.

The Maintenance Days in March will be an opportunity to review the beginner and intermediate boards and sails to make sure they are still fit for purpose as well as all the usual maintenance activities.

Club Days area a great opportunity to get together, to share experience and meet up with other members, so please make sure if you can to come along to some of them.

Watch out for group emails about updates to the Calendar, e.g. camp overs and other activities on Club Days.

Also, if you want to be included in the Club WhatsApp group contact Nathan ( with your mobile number. The WhatsApp group is used to see if anyone else is sailing, what the wind is like etc.

TWC Tries Foiling – RYA Instructors Day

Andy, Chris, Pete & Andrea attended the Instructors Day  at Rutland water. One of the sessions was a talk on Foiling, which surprisingly turned into a demonstration and a chance for us to try it. So, Pete, Andy & Chris being soft of head and determined to get freezing cold (it was about 2 degrees with a chilly wind) put their hands up to volunteer to try it out.

I’d always imagined foiling to be a dangerous activity for the novice, but  Tris Best (, assured us that as long as we didn’t let go of the boom then we’d be safe… so having been re-assured that we’d not be catapulted or decapitated , we were convinced.

Surprisingly, all of us got some air on our first tries, and we’re all now hooked. I think we can safely say that TWC will be investing in a club foil in the very near future :-)… Happy foiling.

Many thanks to Tris for his tuition.

Here are some shots of us foiling (and crashing)…. Thanks to David Eberlin of Notts County for his photography skills.

Calendar of Events for 2018

We have now finalised the calendar for the year. Last year we increased the amount of training time for existing members and this year we are increasing that again. We recognise that people want to improve and we want to help you. Last year saw membership rise to 106, an increase of nearly 20%, again. Clearly windsurfing is on the up and up in the East Midlands, and if you want to be part of it TWC is the place to be.

Lots of exciting stuff to look forward to.

We had a great turnout at the National Watersports Festival at Rutland last year and we will be there in force again this year. We’ll be taking the gazebo, we’ll have the BBQ lit and there’ll be a nice pale ale on tap. Lots to see and do, tickets will be on sale shortly so make sure to get yours.

Club members will already have been informed about our summer trip, this year to Alacati in Turkey departing 30th June. We also hope to arrange a short trip to Sotovento again for intermediate/advanced sailors. The Tiree trip will be in September and we’ll get more info out to club members later in the year. Want to come along?, to be sure of a place, join the club!….

New this year is the Saturday Club Days. Rather than a weekday evening this year we are trying all day monthly events  at the lake. We will be organising some events, inviting the public to come and see what we’re about, lighting the BBQ, possibly camping if the weathers nice, get the tandems out, maybe even some informal racing if the wind is good. But whatever is going on it will be a great social occasion  and the chance for members to get together.

Make sure to put the dates in your diary.

TWC in the Media

Hi All,

TWC made it into the local sailing web sites with a story on us hitting the 100 member mark.

Well done everyone !

Keep up the good work for 2018 and see if we can maintain that 100 for next year.

Some new photo’s from April to May 2017

Kit Donations

Just wanted to say a big thanks to Richard Ainsworth from Chilwell for his Kit Donations to the club.

He donated the following for all members to use:

  • 1 x Starboard GO 165 (with all of it’s fittings)
  • 1 x Tushingham DINO 340 mast.
  • 1 x Tushingham DINO 3.5M sail.
  • 1 x Rig (for the above manufacturer unknown).
  • 1 x Neil Pryde JET 5.9M sail.

The starboard Go is a great light wind board in very good condition, and I’ll be testing it this weekend as will some of the people coming to the training course.

Going up in smoke and down in flames… The NWF Night Events have always been spectacular and 2017 will be no exception.
AeroSparx is coming to the NWF! With their new sponsor, the national outdoor store BLACKS, AeroSparx is the only pyrotechnic glider team in the UK licenced to fly at night. AeroSparx performed a spectacular, aerial firework display on the One Show to honour the Queen on her 90th Birthday and will be performing at the NWF just before dusk on Saturday night. You can get a taste of what is in store at but even that won’t prepare you for the wonder of two gliders carving graceful aerobatics through the night sky, with wingtip pyrotechnics and two fuselages, each covered with 12,000 LED lenses, reflecting from the still, dark surface of Rutland Water!
